Yes, what good is just a fancy photo-collection?  How can panning to adjoining pictures be useful?  It can't.  Exporting the point cloud would provide a purpose to this meaningless novelty software.  Furthermore, what is the purpose?  how do the developers and this product generate profits for MSFT?

I agree that it would be awesome to be able to use this software as a type of 3D Scanner.

I do like the idea of having 3D models come out of Photosynth, but I have to say that having a fancy photo collection is extremely useful in its own right.  I've used it a couple of times to do surveys of remote sites.  People can then fly around the site and zoom in on details in actual photos, rather than zooming in on a 3D model which may or may not contain the details they need.

I'd certainly love to see 3D models popping out of my synths, but I like the synths, too.
