I have a question... I have worked now on 3 synths... increasing easier ones with less picture but NONE of them have worked :(
How LONG does the process normally take?? I let one sit all night long with no progress :(
help!

The time it takes completely depends on how fast your computer's processor is, how much and how fast your internet connection's upload speed is.

The more RAM and hard drive space your computer has, the more photos it can synth together.

Also note that if you are running Windows xp SP2, there is a bug with Windows Imaging Component. Either install Windows Live Photo Gallery or upgrade to Windows xp SP3 if you are getting errors about running out of memory with very few photos.

The more specifics you can provide, the easier it will be to help you.

What operating system are you using?
How fast is your processor + how much RAM does it have?
How much free hard drive space?
Are you getting any error messages? (If so, what are they, exactly?)

You say no progress was made? What do your log files say? Type %temp%/photosynther in your Windows Explorer address bar and press enter to view your logs.

Big synths can take quite a while but there may be some other problem.

*When I ask about free hard drive space, I only care about the hard drive where your 'Temp' folder resides... by default the one where Windows is installed. (This is where Photosynth will put the converted images as well as build the point cloud files etc.)

Nathaniel :)
I am using Vista Basic - 585 at @2.16GHZ
memory 2 GB (8.2 GB free?)
32 bit operating system
I figured out the error messages :) (the info provided already was VERY helpful)

You say no progress was made? What do your log files say? Type %temp%/photosynther in your Windows Explorer address bar and press enter to view your logs. - I am running this on Firefox is THAT a problem?? and I could not get this to work?? (%temp%/photosynther)
AND I have to say I thought I was semi-computer literate but I do not know what you mean when you say I only care about the hard drive where your 'Temp' folder resides.. LOL
I let the Synth run ALL night and this one has gotten the furthest... it is "extracting image features" and is about 15%? Green on the bar...

and BTW OMG THANKS!!!!

ok... after coffee I realized what you meant by log files... bear with me because I am not as familiar with Vista *sigh*
when typed in Run it appears all the images are there but I can not figure out if there is progress or not?

Hi, Drfeather; I saw your tweet. I'm sorry you're struggling with Photosynth. I suggest that for your first synth try to use about 30 photos. This should take less than half an hour. How many photos are you trying to synth? It's surprising that you only got to 15% - extracting image features after synthing all night long. Usually at this point it would be a little further along even if you are synthing 1200 photos. (That's about the practical maximum.)

after trying 3 different synths with little success I am going to give up and take my pictures to RIT for processing... well for THIS project anyway...
I will be be back though with personal projects... well because this is absolutely amazing!
thank you...
