Can’t seem to get something to synth right? Curious about what lens is best? Ask your fellow Photosynthers here.
Greetings fellow syntherz,
Took LOTS of fotos recently at Maya ruins in Palenque, Mexico w/ intent to create synth(s). Each foto is 8MP. Some of my synths may have ~100 fotos or more. Should the fotos be resized? What size? Quantitatively, how does size affect initial processing? How does it affect loading time? How does it affect navigation. I want to make a nice synth without over-doing it and bogging things done.
TIA for any direction, experience, insights, etc. that u may b able to provide.
P.S. Here's a link to my first, simple synth (from 4 fotos of the skull on the Temple of the Skull):
Wow! Great start! The size of the photo doesn't impact synthing (or the point cloud) very much. It does limit how far people can zoom into the image on the live site, and it does impact upload time, and it does impact "Image Tile Generation".
Since tile generation is a relatively small part of the synthing time, and once you've uploaded a photo, it won't need to be uploaded again even if you resynth, I suggest using your 8MP photos. Just take all 100 of them, start the synth before you go to bed, and in the morning it will all be on our site. If you don't like the result, you can start another synth, but since all the photos are already uploaded, it will be faster.
Tnx for the quick, helpful reply, madeeds. I'll give it a try!
P.S. How have you dealt w/ rotated pix? Upload doesn't seem to respect EXIF orientation metadata, nor does synth upload app provide for selective rotation:( Or have I missed something? Perhaps there's a 3rd-party app/hack for this? FYI, I commented on one of ur synths ('Nepenthis - One Clump'). Asked about clumps n ur app. Is there a repository for synth apps. Sounds like they could b helpful. BTW, I'm a programmer, too (among other things). My realm is 3d graphics. Tnx, again. "See" ya...
