Can’t seem to get something to synth right? Curious about what lens is best? Ask your fellow Photosynthers here.
I have tow things I hope you accomplished Synth-ers can help with. 1) is there some kind of tutorial on how to use the "create a synth" tool? I found good info on taking pix and viewing but the tool is less than intuitive (for me anyway). Second - how do I find the totally lame 7 picture (0% synthy) synth I think I just uploaded, so I can delete it before someone views it and vomits? Thanks! Brian
Should have proof read..."two things"
Hey there, Brian.
If you click on your username anywhere on the site, you'll be taken to your profile page. There are four categories or tabs on each person's profile; they are:
1: People's activity on your synths
2: The latest comments on synths that you have commented on
3: Your synths
4: Your favorites
If you click on "Signed in as Hooses-HFL" you'll be taken to recent activity on your synths, but if you click on your username next to your synths or your posts here on the forum, you'll be taken to your synths.
As to instructions on how to use the synther... well... it's pretty much just set the photos into it, give it a title, and press 'Synth'. There's no controls at all for manually correcting photos that didn't place where you thought they would or anything like that, so it's really just about learning what sort of photos the synther *will* figure out and giving it what it wants.
I guess you found the video and guide: http://photosynth.net/howtosynth.aspx
As far as deleting a synth, just navigate to your synths page ( http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=Hooses-HFL or http://photosynth.net/UserProfilePage.aspx?user=Hooses-HFL&content=Synths ) while you're signed into your account on the site and click on the small "x" in the upper right hand corner of any of your synth cards (where you see the thumbnails and titles but aren't viewing any of the synths yet) to delete that synth.
(You can also unlist a synth if you want to be the only person who can see it. Just click on the title or thumbnail when you're looking at your synths to pull the synth up and click the "Make Unlisted" button.)
One other way to find your synths is to just search for your username using the search box on the upper right hand corner of every page on the site.
As to your first synth, you're way too hard on yourself. =] You were just a little optimistic at Photosynth's ability to recognise things.
A few tips:
Photosynth thinks that everything is stationary. Things that move or change shape confuse it.
(Your dog is going to be a tricky subject unless you can catch him|her napping or he|she is extremely disciplined and will 'stay' almost perfectly still when told to. You could still get shots all the way around him|her to synth together even if his|her head is moving if Photosynth has enough shots of the wood grain in the floor or other stationary background details to understand the motion of the camera. This won't get you a great pointcloud of your dog, but with the photos turned on people shouldn't notice.)
When circling a subject, try not to take fewer than 24 photos. It's possible to sneak by with fewer, but five is cutting things a little too short. Photosynth just doesn't understand it when things change so much.
