Can’t seem to get something to synth right? Curious about what lens is best? Ask your fellow Photosynthers here.
The blog clearly contains the Rosetta Stone for basic operation of the Photosynth browser, and it's reasonably good help. The web site tends to point new users in the direction of the forums for help, but that's actually for more advanced help. And mostly for creating synths (because that's more complex a topic than just browsing). I think the web site needs to have a more prominent "click here for browser help" link of some kind that gets the user routed to the blog (at a minimum). Trying to make the browser work and get impressed with the technology by viewing other people's synths is naturally a new user's starting point. Making sure the new user knows how to fully experience the technology, rather than just poking around and possibly missing some neat trick, seems like an important key in selling the technology.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm actually going to work on some video tours of the viewer to help new users jump in and start exploring synths. I'll make sure they're easy to discover.
Maybe having a "sticky" topic in the Forum titled "FAQ" or somesuch would be useful?
As a first time user, I am having a problem getting Photosyth to open. It says the Photosynth service is not available. And gives me an exit window. Is it me?
