Now, if only this panorama had been combined with high quality copies of the individual photos in an actual synth, rather than the panorama alone, that would be extra fit. ;)

"photokina 2010 - the world's leading trade fair for the photography and imaging sector - is presenting the largest matrix ring in the world. In Hall 4.1, the adf (Arbeitskreis Digitale Fotografie e.V.- Digital Photography Working Group) will install what is most probably the largest matrix ring in the world - 14 meters in diameter and almost 44 meters in circumference : 100 cameras. It is even large enough to photograph small groups. And at photokina it will be used to produce matrix movies - fascinating interactive Flash Player images that will enable a 360° view of the photographed objects on the Internet. Trade fair visitors will be invited to have a matrix movie made about themselves free of charge, which shortly afterwards will be viewable on the Internet. The images of the visitors photographed in this manner can then be viewed from all sides and rotated on the screen. Matrix movies are created when a number of identical high-resolution DSLRs are mounted on one matrix ring and their shutters are released at exactly the same time so that the image is captured from all sides simultaneously. Nicely done Laurent! This synth shows how badly we need to introduce a time-based view. It's going ot be tricky to do it well, especially when there are gaps in both space and time as there are in this synth, but its on our list!

Abbaye de Royaumont - Val d'Oise - France

"L'abbaye de Royaumont dans le Val d'Oise est toujours en cours de rénovation mais elle est superbe. Depuis sa fondation par Saint Louis au XIIIe siècle jusqu'à nos jours, l'abbaye de Royaumont n'a jamais été laissée à l'abandon. Après la Révolution elle est transformée en filature de coton, puis à partir de 1869 en noviciat par des religieuses qui entreprennent les premiers grands travaux de restauration. Au début du XXe siècle l’abbaye est acquise par la famille Goüin qui crée en 1964 la Fondation Royaumont (Goüin-Lang pour le progrès des sciences de l’homme), l'abbaye appartient aujourd'hui à la Fondation Royaumont. L'église de Royaumont fut détruite en 1792. Le nouveau propriétaire de l'abbaye, le marquis de Travanet, fit construire dans le parc, avec les pierres de l'église, les habitations des ouvriers de la filature qu'il installait à Royaumont Dans le fond à droite, un grand espace vide rappelle l'église qui s'élevait jusqu'en 1792, le bâtiment le plus important du monastère : avec une nef d'une longueur de 106 m et d'une hauteur d'environ 28 m, l'église avait à peu près les dimensions de la cathédrale de Soissons.
