The area was mainly dealing with warehousing and you can still see signs of the warehousing. The warehouses were retrofitted to house the restaurants, bars and shops that now make up the pedestrian mall.&#10;&#10;In the early 2000&#39;s, Clarke Quay used to be host to weekend flea marketing and drew crowds of bargain hunters and budding entrepreneurs. These days the &#39;flea market&#39; has gone up market and you can visit Clarke Quay for a Bazaar event usually held one weekend a month.&#10;&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;www.clarkequay.com.sg&#10;&#10;Nearby places to see &#40;walking distance&#41;&#58;&#10;&#10;Boat Quay&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;en.wikipedia.org&#47;wiki&#47;Boat_Quay&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;photosynth.net&#47;view.aspx&#63;cid&#61;bcee2494-5f65-4d7d-b5d2-321ed8b6c1c5&#10;&#10;Singapore River&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;photosynth.net&#47;view.aspx&#63;cid&#61;a5e8585e-deb7-44d3-81a0-66bd7ea3490d&#10;&#10;Riverside Point&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;www.fareastretail.com.sg&#47;home&#47;index.aspx&#63;key&#61;riversidepoint&#10;&#10;Centr&#64;l&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;www.thecentral.com.sg&#10;&#10;Robertson Quay&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;photosynth.net&#47;view.aspx&#63;cid&#61;f1de611e-6009-460c-b228-fcd8d4742edf&#10;&#10;Hotel Novotel &#47; It was formed in 2008 from the damming of the mouth of the Kallang Basin. Situated at the heart of the up-and-coming Marina South district, the Marina Reservoir is an iconic venue with Singapore&#8217;s business and financial district as its backdrop.&#10;&#10;With the completion of the Marina Barrage, the reservoir, which contained mainly salt water, would become freshwater in a few years when excess water will be released out to the sea after heavy rains. The catchment area that is resulted from the forming of the reservoir is about one-third the size of Singapore, and two of the island&#39;s major rivers - Singapore River, Kallang River and Geylang River, as well as Rochor River, a tributary of the Kallang River flow into it.&#10;&#10;The Marina Reservoir is a choice venue for a wide range of water-based activities including hosting the canoe-kayak and rowing events. The area includes a one-kilometre straight race course for canoeing and rowing activities. The Singapore Canoe Marathon 2009 was staged at the Marina Reservoir in January 2009.&#10;&#10;The on-land staging of canoeing and rowing competitions is along a portion of Gardens by the Bay &#8211; a new 32-hectare park next to the Marina Reservoir. With an extensive water frontage along the Marina Reservoir, the Gardens will provide an excellent vantage point.&#10;&#10;The facilities at the reservoir during Singapore 2010 &#40;the First Youth Olympic Games&#41; include a boat-storage shed for up to 200 boats, a boat-washing area, toilets and showers, and a doping-control station. A seating gallery for approximately 1,000 spectators will be constructed.&#10;&#10;The Marina Barrage is part of a comprehensive flood control scheme to alleviate flooding in the low-lying areas in the city such as Chinatown, Boat Quay, Jalan Besar and Geylang. During heavy rain, the series of nine crest gates at the dam will be activated to release excess storm water into the sea when the tide is low. In the case of high tide, giant pumps which are capable of pumping an Olympics-size swimming pool per minute will drain excess storm water into the sea.&#10;&#10;For information, please visit&#58;&#10;http&#58;&#47;&#47;www.bing.com&#47;reference&#47;semhtml&#47;Marina_Reservoir&#63;sids&#61;2&#38;q&#61;Marina&#43;Reservoir&#38;qpvt&#61;Marina&#43;Reservoir"

<a10:updated>2010-03-17T06:08:06Z</a10:updated><a10:content type="text/html" src="http://photosynth.net/view/9dcbb910-2803-4432-9d12-c735ee77232a" />

<a10:author><a10:name>meihsien</a10:name><a10:uri>http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=meihsien</a10:uri></a10:author>
Photo360_Team5

<a href="http://photosynth.net/view/8928cd05-56e2-4209-b6d4-90f8add9212a"><img src="http://cdn3.ps1.photosynth.net/synth/s01001300-ABESv3DHjCM/metadata.synth_files/thumb.jpg" alt="Photo360_Team5" title"Photo360_Team5" /></a> by <a href="http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=meihsien">meihsien</a> "The Peranakan Museum is a museum in Singapore specialising in Peranakan culture. Dedicated to Kali, the Goddess of Power and ferocious incarnation of Lord Siva&#8217;s wife, this Hindu temple is believed to be the first one of its kind in Singapore to venerate her.&#10;&#10;Many temple devotees use the aluminum enclosures located near the doors to break coconuts, symbolic of revealing their pure and kind inner-selves. You may also notice that in counter-clockwise fashion, they encircle the temple halls an odd number of times for good luck.&#10;&#10;Devotees entering the temple ring the many bells on its door, hoping to have their requests granted. Inside, the ceiling is rimmed with statues of Hindu gods. And of course, at this temple&#8217;s main shrine is a jet black statue of Kali, flanked by her sons Ganesha and Murugan. The many-armed Kali carries many weapons too. Namely, weapons of destruction. Ganesha, the elephant god, is the Remover of Obstacles, while Murugan, often depicted riding a peacock, has his birthday marked by the festival of Thaipusam. At other shrines, elephants flank the staircase, while the steps are covered by intricately-worked silver.&#10;&#10;Veeramakaliamman means &#8216;Kali - the Courageous&#8217;.
