Rally for Sanity and/or Fear - Aerials for Crowd Count

by curtw "AirPhotosLIVE.com used these and other aerial images to calculate the crowd size at the Rally for Sanity. The 215,000 person event was hosted by Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert of Comedy Central. These were taken by our surveillance aerostat balloon at 2:00 to 2:04 on Oct 30th 2010 on the National Mall in Washington DC. Note some images from various altitudes of our surveillance aerostat were overlayed with pre-set 3D grids to break down the count into managable portions for density per grid estimates. This count also included .7m satellite imagery from the GeoEye Satelite and reverse angle views from the Washington Monument at 1:30, and 2pm. Our team , including Pulitizer Prize winning journalist Stephen Doig, used classic double blind proceedures to independently come up with estimates.
