Die Bedeutung der Kirche liegt vor allem in den ungewöhnlich umfangreichen mittelalterlichen Wandmalereien[1]. Im Jahre 1988 wurde die Kirche mit dem sie umgebenden historischen Kirchhof von der Stadt Bochum unter Denkmalschutz gestellt. The Stiepeler village church, located in the south of Bochum in the district Stiepel, is a cultural monument of the Ruhr area, with its more than thousand-year history of the oldest preserve buildings in Bochum. The importance of the church lies in the unusually extensive medieval wall paintings [1]. In 1988 the church with the historic surrounding churchyard was listed by the Department for the Protection of Historical Monuments."
