Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs all left something to be found later on. The Cathedral building was started in 1147, after the city was conquered by soldiers of the Second Crusade. It stands where once was located the main mosque of Lisbon, under Arab rule. This synth shows archeological excavations in the gothic cloister. There are findings from the Iron Age, as well as from the Roman and Arab civilizations. Later periods are also represented, from the early and late Middle Ages onward."
