Green Sand Beach - Kite Aerial (KAP)

by tbenedict "Green Sand Beach near Ka Lae, at the south end of the Big Island of Hawai`i, really is green. The sand is largely composed of olivine crystals. Dry, the sand is a dark, but faded green. When wet, the sand takes on a rich green color that is unmistakable, even from the air. This was done using a 6' rokkaku kite, a Brooks BBKK KAP rig, and a Canon A650IS camera. The rig was controlled using an experimental automatic controller. In a little under an hour it had taken over a thousand exposures. The blurries, ocean-only frames, and frames containing isolated details (patch of grass, patch of flowers, etc.) have been removed, leaving 899 photos. Green Sand Beach isn't the easiest place to get to. It's my hope that this synth works well enough to give anyone a look at this rare and beautiful place.
