"Clarke Quay is at the mouth of the Singapore River and in the late 1800's became the centre for doing business. The area was mainly dealing with warehousing and you can still see signs of the warehousing. The warehouses were retrofitted to house the restaurants, bars and shops that now make up the pedestrian mall. In the early 2000's, Clarke Quay used to be host to weekend flea marketing and drew crowds of bargain hunters and budding entrepreneurs.
