Rock and plaque was placed by the Navy Club USA December 7, 1955. This memorial by a private club convinced then Secretary of the Navy &#34;Charles S. Thomas&#34; to commission a Memorial to the lost souls of the Arizona and the others killed on December 7, 1941. Since 1938, NCUSA has in spite of its small size nationally, accomplished many programs and projects, which has kept it alive, and now building a larger membership. Perhaps the biggest highlight of all NCUSA&#39;s events took place in 1955. It was in this year, December 7th, to be more specific, that eight members of the parent body dedicated the first memorial by any Veterans Organization, in honor of all servicemen killed in the Pearl Harbor area in 1941. This monument was placed adjacent to the sunken battleship Arizona, on Ford Island, and consists of a large bronze plaque, measuring approximately three by five feet, and placed on a bluestone lava rock weighing 27 tons, standing ten feet tall. Insignificant, as it might appear, compared to other memorials since dedicated, it never the less took the eye and attention of Charles Thomas, then Secretary of the Navy, as he immediately asked the Pearl Harbor Commission members of NCUSA, to please help the Navy Department and the Pacific War Memorial Commission in establishing a permanent memorial over the sunken battleship Arizona."

<a10:updated>2011-06-05T16:50:31Z</a10:updated><a10:content type="text/html" src="http://photosynth.net/view/9faccb96-b930-4622-9a08-5a0e8dcd1baf" />

<a10:author><a10:name>Talltower</a10:name><a10:uri>http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=Talltower</a10:uri></a10:author>
Keehi Lagoon Honolulu Airport

<a href="http://photosynth.net/view/14ef02e5-0d0b-4208-8cc7-42b4070d36de"><img src="http://cdn2.ps1.photosynth.net/synth/s01001200-ANAKvNOPeyM/metadata.synth_files/thumb.jpg" alt="Keehi Lagoon Honolulu Airport" title"Keehi Lagoon Honolulu Airport" /></a> "The Keehi Lagoon 360 from Pearl Harbor entrance to Diamondhead to the Honolulu Airport"

<a10:updated>2011-04-08T00:38:35Z</a10:updated><a10:content type="text/html" src="http://photosynth.net/view/14ef02e5-0d0b-4208-8cc7-42b4070d36de" />

<a10:author><a10:name>Talltower</a10:name><a10:uri>http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=Talltower</a10:uri></a10:author>
Stadium Car Show

<a href="http://photosynth.net/view/49455a59-8555-40db-9f82-99e10c3747a6"><img src="http://cdn2.ps1.photosynth.net/synth/s01001200-AGkStqbMjSM/metadata.synth_files/thumb.jpg" alt="Stadium Car Show" title"Stadium Car Show" /></a> "This Impala was up on a rotating motor and I stood still while it turned 360 degrees. You are in fact standing on what was the mouth of an old stream, the Kuekaunahi. From ancient times Waikiki has been a popular surfing spot which is one of the reasons why the chiefs made their homes and headquarters here for hundreds of years. Though it&#39;s been called &#34;the sport of kings,&#34; everyone surfed. Surf spots had their special names and the most famous in Waikiki was Kalehuawehe or &#34;take off the lehua.&#34; It was so named when a legendary hero took off his lei of lehua blossoms and gave it to the wife of the ruling chief with whom he was surfing. Romance and surfing often went together.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Believe it or not, by 1900 surfing had nearly died out in Hawaii partly because of the missionary opposition to the sport which took people away from worship and other religious obligations. Waikiki has some of the best summer waves in the world. The swells vary in height from 2 to 8 feet and on rare occasions, have reached as high as 35 feet. A ride can easily extend a hundred yards or so. The longest ride recorded took place in 1917 when the great Duke Kahanamoku caught a 35-foot wave and rode it to share, a distance of a mile and a quarter."

<a10:updated>2010-02-22T23:31:59Z</a10:updated><a10:content type="text/html" src="http://photosynth.net/view/3e6af7d4-72c7-4ac0-a633-00b52db3c0f0" />

<a10:author><a10:name>Talltower</a10:name><a10:uri>http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=Talltower</a10:uri></a10:author>
Waikiki Front

<a href="http://photosynth.net/view/b438cb57-31ad-40af-9353-cc1373e0e85e"><img src="http://cdn3.ps1.photosynth.net/synth/s01001300-AEwTDKgHlyM/metadata.synth_files/thumb.jpg" alt="Waikiki Front" title"Waikiki Front" /></a> "Shots from Salt Lake at the Airport looking at downtown Honolulu, then downtown itself.
