"The Campanario de Dumaguete was built upon one of the four original massive watchtowers that parish priest Don Jose Manuel Fernandez de Septien built in the 1760s to discourage moros from pillaging the town. The two layers which are now known as the belltower or the campanario were added during the administration of fray Juan Felix de la Encarnacion in 1867."

"The first members of Saint Paul of Chartres arrived on the orders of Msgr. Frederick Z. Rooker, Bishop of Jaro, Iloilo, to help in educating the children of the island of Negros. The first SPC nun landed in Dumaguete in October 24, 1904. They are Mo. Marthe de St. Paul Legendre, Sr. Marie Louise du Sacre Coeur Nivou, Sr. Anna de la Croix Anne, Sr. Ange Marie Bannier (French); Sr. Marie Josephine Rappeport (American); Sr. Catherine de Genes Gutteres (Portuguese) and Sr. Charles Aho (Chinese). Maria Echavez (Sr. Ambroisine) was the first Philippine member."
