"I had the opportunity to spend the day with Matt Biancaniello as he explored the Santa Monica Farmers Market collecting ingredients for the most unlikely beverage creations. Matt is a Mixologist - Mixology is, in the most general sense, the art of mixing cocktails. Since I don't recall that Mixology was a proffesional or artistic designation when I used to drink... I sensed that there might me a story or adventure to be found... The process and approach are as important as the resultant beverage. The story has very little to do with alcohol... it is very much about the spirit of exploration and creation... and process... and sharing... He shares his creative process openly and the recipes that he shares in the class build a solid framework of general techniques and methods provide a solid starting point for making your own creations. His attention to detail, the care and reasoning for the specific regional and seasonal ingredients... an ingredient is 'right' or 'not right'... if it's not right... it won't be served. The entire experience was about exploration, interaction with participants, perspective and living life to it's fullest. I will post the photos when they are ready, cleaned and aged... when they are 'right.' I figured the story really starts with an empty classroom with blenders... and ingredients are added until the firm decision is made that it is time to serve... :)"
