No tripod just composition. The software is really amazing. I use a cannon camera, that is all. The panorama does give a realistic representation of the view from atop the mountain. The hike is straight forward and with the panorama you can visit the mountain top virtually.

Bruce this 360 thing is awesome! Hubbie says you must have done this using a tripod. How much does your equipment weigh? I could not even get MYSELF up there!

Your correct, the overhead view shows Paramore Crater in a nice 3D relief. The black center is where I circled up in the aircraft and did not get any coverage.

Thanks, by circling the aircraft and then climbing inside this crater the viewer gets a better appreciation of the scale of this volcanic maar in the Geronimo volcanic field.

This looks great with the new overhead view!

Thank you. It is a combination of photographs from repeated "steep bank turns" (a FAA pilot testing maneuver) taken at the mouth of the canyon, see the map for the location. The technique is described at the Sky Gypsies http://theskygypsies.blogspot.com/2009/07/panoramic-aerial-photographs-utility-of.html

Thanks, my first attempts were designed to compare traditional panoramas with photosynth, then to see how photo tracking and order affects the synth. Now that I have a rudimentary understanding I will go back and redo some of these synths adding more images increasing the complexity of the view. I'm surprised that I have not seen more hang gliding synths though, perhaps I'm not paying attention. But translating what we see from either a harness or seat into something others can enjoy will only bring people into our sports.

I've definitely got to keep an eye on you. Don't be shy with the number of photos, though! You can't let the hang glider pilots one up you. http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=1a012e5b-f88f-481f-ab3e-98f32c36665e Safe landings to you.
