It is beautiful even in mirror!

Jayson, you are correct. The photo is horizontally mirrored. I did this because I was too lazy to complete the entire insect.

The description says: "Image duplicated and flipped horizontally to make a 2.19 gigapixel image"

As I closely look onto the image. The half of the bug's body is just mirrored. why?

Thank you for the comments. David that is an ocellus (plural ocelli). Its another form of eye. titanmiller, I am planning more projects in the future. This image took about 20 hours of work from start to finish so to catalog even 100 species would require a great deal of time. With my wife and son at home and a full time job it will have to remain just a hobby for now... Depth of field is an obstacle at these magnifications. It may take 100 photos at different focal planes which will be combined into a single image by the focus stacking program.

Made my first panorama macro, thanks to a very cooperative dragonfly in Vietnam. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas. http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=f75d3109-6f8e-4290-a971-ca40719225fc

Hi, I use a focus stacking program called zerene stacker. Basically you take many photos at different focal planes and the program merges them together. Thanks for looking
