Ha! David, I can thoroughly relate to getting a few odd looks, thanks to where Photosynth wants me to get shots from. Great shooting, Drew. The extra effort was worth it.

It would have been fun to see the expresssions on the faces of the tourists when you were photographing the back of this sculpture. Nicely done.

Hi Drew, Thank you for your comment on my Santa Barbara Courthouse synth 13 days ago: "Fantastic! I see what you mean about the tricky navigation to get to the elevator...you have to turn around and back up the final flight of stairs. We're working on some improvements to the reconstruction phase right now to lower the memory and time requirements. I'll certainly be testing it out on some of these data sets." Because of the 20G storage limit, I have to remove older synths to make room for new ones. Here is the newest Courthouse synth, thank you: http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=b2b831fc-4b57-4884-bb2d-719af556e1d9

Nice house. I like how it looks when you press P,it's like snowing. About the rotation on the skull, it's difficult because it was ment to be a little animation around it showing the 3d proportions of the skull, so the images are all in different ways. I think I do like it like that, and this tool is really better than anything I know for defining the proportions of things in reality. I'm really amazed with the possibilities of this technology, there are lots of ways to improve people's lifes with this!

@ kain067: Thanks! I took this partially as a test set to see how the synther would do on it. I love finding synths that break the synther and then trying to figure out how to fix it. I was a bit surprised that this one worked as well as it did since there is a lot of small scale detail with the zoomed in photos on the overlooks (there are actually multiple ones in addition to the visitor's center photos), while Mt Rainier still reconstructed well. The detailed portions of the point cloud are kind of floating off in space because they are only tied together through the mountain off in the distance. We have some checks in the synther that should probably have split this up automatically, but we need to tweak them some.

Very nice - it's a bit confusing how it's taken from two different areas (a visitor center and an overlook - took me a while to figure that out) but it's amazing how the program matched them up.
