Thankyou EdLee, must be a combination of things, I shoot the pictures in different resolutions (multishot mode drops the resolution) highest being 3648 x 2056. Photosynth then resizes the pictures. Your Court House project is amazing as well!

EdLee (Over 1 year ago)
Very nice. I was able to synth 1,395 photos @100% in 4 hours 10 minutes with lesser hardware: Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Core 2 Duo T5800, 2GHz, 3G RAM, 32-bit Vista. What were the resolutions of your photos? Mine were VGA 640x480. See my on-going project of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.

I didn't think it was possible to synth this many photos. This is really cool!

I have to say this is a very exciting synth - I have spent around 20 minutes "walking" through the church and still have not seen all the corners and details. It is really incredible what Photosynth has done with this.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Lost, I'm surprised that I never commented on this inspiring synth. You certainly challenged me to try larger structures and I'm sure you did the same for others. I wonder if the inner and outer walls could be tightened up by adding a short orbit of the left and right sides of each doorway at minimum and possibly the same treatment of the top of the doorway as well. I know that means more photos which is a problem, but I'd love to see it done. Looking forward to your coming synths when you next have some free time.

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
Thanks blaise, I struggled to upload the pictures (out of memory errors) since then the software has been updated so I might retry a large upload again. I also wish I had more time this summer for shooting pictures but have been way to busy. Be glad when things slow down here in the triangle!

For what it's worth, Ed, I'm glad you went with the full resolution photos on this one. When Photosynth introduces dense reconstruction this synth will shine all the more. If you know someone who has a computer with obscene amounts of RAM, you should try the original photos in Yasutaka Furukawa's PMVS2 by using Henri Astre's PhotosynthToolkit. If you don't have the originals anymore, you can download original resolution copies of the photos with Henri's PhotosynthTileDownloader.

Hey Nathanael, Thanks for the investigation. I looked into it a while back and it turns out this is actually pretty easy to get working. Unfortunately, the team is very booked and I'm not actively working on iSynth right now :( If we resume working on mobile stuff in the future, I'm sure we'll add this feature.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Actually... that was Aseem Kishore, not Daniel, and Aseem's schedule seems overbooked already, so perhaps that's not the direction to pursue, but I still maintain that since he's already done that sort of thing, he'd be someone useful to speak with.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Greg, for what it's worth, Daniel Gasienica over on the Seadragon team pulled off launching Seadragon Mobile from within Seadragon Ajax on http://seadragon.com so the same thing should be more than possible with Photosynth. To me, this would bridge an absolutely massive gap in satisfaction, allowing me to open unlisted synths, more quickly move between viewing and commenting, etc. etc. Some way would definitely be needed to drop back out to Safari on the synth's page from within iSynth (moreso than simply going to the author's profile) as well to make the experience sweet, but I believe that it's all possible. I know that iSynth doesn't have the official blessing and the team most likely doesn't want to have any obligations to make sure that the app continues to work with the site in the future, but maybe Daniel could work something up for the site if no one on your team has the time with you coding up the way to drop back to Safari after viewing a synth.

LucAskAng (Over 1 year ago)
Really cool.

Greg (Over 1 year ago)
Nathanael, No idea what the technical challenge of a feature like that would be. I'd imagine it would either be very easy or completely impossible (for the reasons you mentioned). I don't know what the future holds for Photosynth on the iPhone, but I'll certainly keep your suggestion in mind if I continue to develop it.

Fair enough. :-) It's interesting that you should think that the arrows are counter-intuitive. We've got some people on the team that have recently been arguing for the removal of all the arrows. Anyway, we should have a fix for the missing quads in a few weeks.

auracle111 (Over 1 year ago)
do you not find the need to use arrows as counter-intuitive? my suggestions is to just view it in d3d where it all works just fine. ;)

Marvin (Over 1 year ago)
Hi Auracle111, I think the problem with the Silverlight viewer in this issue is that the current version of the Silverlight viewer is simply not catching all the "quad neighbors" that the d3d viewer is doing. Try pressing the spacebar a few times, or using the little arrows on the bottom panel. I think you'll be able to get to the rest of the photos.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Hi there, Auracle111, Sorry to hear you were having problems with the new Silverlight viewer. I'm looking at all 20 photos in the new Silverlight viewer right now and they're all loading really well. I know how you feel about the Direct3D viewer (I love it!), but keep in mind that the Photosynth team is not finished building the Silverlight viewer. The only time that they would ever take the Direct3D viewer away is if they had improved the Silverlight one to be every bit as fast and smooth as the Direct3D one. Just a heads up: Tony Ernst replied to your topic in the forums and would like you to talk to him if you're still having problems so that he and the other guys working on the new viewer can figure out what's going wrong for you and fix it.
