ICE's stitching errors on the background are really frustrating here. Using multiple exposures at each camera orientation or locking in a manual exposure would have avoided the glaring differences in lighting as well.

Thanks. I will try this out sometime.

My brother writes on Facebook, "I put out 6 different mugs for each color, filled each one about 2/3 with cold water, put 1 tsp vinegar in each mug and then put 4 drops of color in each mug. I put 2 halves in each mug for 10 mins until they were all done. If I were to do it again I might only fill the mugs halfway and/or let them soak a little longer to give them more color".

sudipta (3 months ago)
how did they get the colors ?

quite colorful and yummy !

Thanks! The tripod helped me stay vertically stable (for the most part) but if you turn on the map with the [M] key, you'll see that I wasn't too consistent in my spacing. =) This was taken at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn Oregon http://www.woodenshoe.com/ https://www.facebook.com/woodenshoetulipfarm

Thanks - that's useful. I have some old (but good) Canon FD primes that was going to use on a Sony Nex6 for close up work on a 1/8th scale set - so that makes it OK for me :-)

Steve.Lawrence (2 months ago)
It is a micro-four-thirds sensor, in an Olympus E-PL1 camera, so it would be equivalent to 38 mm in a 35 mm camera.

HGREGG (3 months ago)
Thanks Nate - is that on a crop sensor? I'm looking for the 35mm mm equivalent.

NateLawrence (3 months ago)
The EXIF tags say 19mm for the focal length. I'm not sure exactly how far away the camera was from the fried chicken, though. Perhaps about two feet away? I decided to shoot this just before everyone sat down for Easter lunch so was a bit rushed, as I'm sure you can see from the reconstruction.

HGREGG (3 months ago)
Very good depth - what is the focal length of the lens? and how far were you from the food?

^_^ Aye, treading carefully through one's neighbors' rose bed requires some compromises in orbit shape. I do wish that the geometry on this had come out cleaner as the point cloud in Photosynth 1 was one of my favorite.

David-Photosynth-Team (3 months ago)
I love the "eccentric" ellipse shape. It's like the camera was a comet circling the sun.

Sorry it's not a more glamorous shoot. I wish I'd caught it before everyone had served themselves for the pictures' sake, but yes, quite tasty. ツ My aunt knows how to make the taste buds happy.

The reverse trip from the same shoot is here: http://photosynth.net/preview/view/0a1a5d08-3fd5-4b0f-a0e1-6e9f59748934 but it's the same story, panning upward at the end, unfortunately. To be honest, the photos inside the capitol are some of my worst, but since you were talking about synth linking being actively worked on again, I wanted to extract slices of an old synth that was known to stick together and upload it as PS2 synths to see if I could get the whole experience linked in PS2.

NateLawrence (4 months ago)
Yeah, too bad. Both the Senate and the House were empty but had a velvet barrier across them most of the day when I shot this in 2010 and the janitorial staff were in there toward the afternoon and didn't want to be in my photos. I wasn't too sure how people would react to me taking all the photos I wanted so I was in a great hurry and unfortunately many of the shots turned out blurry but the overhead view of the lobby is largely intact in my original synth, even if a few pieces didn't integrate into Synth 0. http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=169ef35b-b685-4d03-a6b1-3aa379fa411c I'd really like to shoot complete coverage in spherical panoramas with long exposures to blur out people, but need to get a Nodal Ninja tripod head first.

David-Photosynth-Team (4 months ago)
Hadn't noticed this one before, but I like it. Wish it had actually shown the interior of the senate rather than panning up to the signage :-)

Thanks! I definitely enjoyed my time there. My friends had apparently had enough of the water from our canoeing earlier that day, but I just couldn't pass up taking a quick dip and trip down the slide before we headed back to their place. I'm definitely missing Florida. Back in the chilly rain soaked northwest now. =)

Yeah, it turned out alright for not having a tripod and being shot in a hurry. There's way too many half joined beams for me to be overjoyed, but it serves the purpose of giving people a look around.

Heheh. Thanks, I think. ツ There's a weird flaw in the point cloud in that there's actually two reconstructions which overlap each other (note the multiple representations of the potato chip bowl), but aren't merged and are represented at two different scales and angles. I think I might be able to make it go away if I place the photos into Photosynth in a different order (and thus give it a different beginning pair of images to begin reconstruction from), but that's a bit of a roll of the dice.

titanmiller (Over 1 year ago)
I love the absurdity of this. The 3D point cloud is pretty cool though.

Thanks. Yeh, I should have put more effort into shooting this, for sure. It's just begging for long exposures on a tripod, but that would have meant moving everything to a location where the tripod could move all the way around without running me into walls, hedges, etc. and the pumpkin seemed rather fragile, so I didn't tempt fate. The photos with the flash really detract from the mood, but on the other hand are much better for the synther. I have yet to do any research about whether my camera has any built in support for exposure bracketing, but that might be one way to go next time. Perhaps I can figure that out in time for Christmas holidays.

After you click on the synth, use the [P] key to turn on the point cloud 3D model behind the photos. You can toggle between Photos Only, Photos + Points, Points only, and back to Photos Only again. Also check out Overhead View by using the [T] key. From overhead, you can click on any part of the point cloud to swoop down to a photo of that part of the scene. If you get lost or decide that you would rather look at the photos like a gallery, you can try out 2D view by using the [~] key and zoom in and out of all of the photos by pointing your mouse cursor at what you want to move toward and using your scrollwheel.
