Thanks Nathanael! looking for some free time as well!

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Lost, I'm surprised that I never commented on this inspiring synth. You certainly challenged me to try larger structures and I'm sure you did the same for others. I wonder if the inner and outer walls could be tightened up by adding a short orbit of the left and right sides of each doorway at minimum and possibly the same treatment of the top of the doorway as well. I know that means more photos which is a problem, but I'd love to see it done. Looking forward to your coming synths when you next have some free time.

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
Thanks blaise, I struggled to upload the pictures (out of memory errors) since then the software has been updated so I might retry a large upload again. I also wish I had more time this summer for shooting pictures but have been way to busy. Be glad when things slow down here in the triangle!

This is great, very nicely captured. The pointcloud also looks great: - Press 'p' to show just the pointcloud - Once in pointcloud view you can press Shift+p which will cause the pointcloud to be rendered at full density even as you move around (rather than its normal mode where it thins out the pointcloud to keep a good framerate).

This is so great!!!! amazing cloud. btw: I think the damages on the cube actualy help photosynth. So I guessed you did this even on purpose.

Fere (Over 1 year ago)
I tooked the pictures in a stop motion movie fashion. Camera stood still and I have rotated the cube 20~30 degrees at a time. When completing a full circle the camera pitch and height were increased so that it was still pointing at the cube. I have repeated this process once for "ecuator", twice for each "hemishpere" and also tooked a few pics for the "poles". The though part was to make an smoth background with almoust no shadows. I achieved this on a cloudy day with a background set made out of white paper. You'll observe that the top and bottom planes, being exposed in a larger number of pics then the other 4 planes, are a bit more well defined. Oh, by the way, I'm surprised to see that the my synth has such a big succes, I'll try to rie to the expectations with my other synths on wich I'm working.

gymboh32 (Over 1 year ago)

Just noticed sumthin interestin. Original pic orientation doesn't matter for the synth, but does in Grid View. I've noticed that Photosynth does not respect the meta data for image orientation, so I have been rotating mine in Windows Explorer. Will continue to do so, since Grid View has its place, too. Well, anyhow, just thought I'd point this out, in case others were unaware, as I was till just a moment ago. OK, synth on:)...

Hastarin (Over 1 year ago)
I'm currently synthing a version with only 61 photos that were the wider angle shots. Thankfully since it decided only 2 of the photos were new it was relatively quick to do. Now I know it can reuse photos without uploading them I may experiment more. You can see the simpler version here: http://tinyurl.com/ahwrj3 That said you should be able to play with the point cloud on this. There are several toroidal rings to manipulate at various points, mainly at the corners, and you can always use a combination of the mouse and w/a/s/d to view it. Though I admit it's not as simple as the one main ring on the simpler version.

@Nathan: I geotagged it @K: What can I say? it is an awsome mountain, i've climbed it 3 times on different routes and in different styles, from a 24hrs trailhead to trailhead to a 4 days carry-over and camping in the crater. If you are going to climb it get basic mountaineering training like negociating crevasses, walking on crampons and roped up, using an ice axe, etc. Make sure you choose carefully the time window for good weather (June / July) - this is a mountain you want to take seriously. Good luck.
