Thank you David. The geo-alignment is a first element which uses the knowledge and intelligence of the synther. Do you see an ability to utilizes the knowledge of the synther to arrange critical parts of the synth to get a perfect result? Look at my two synths "Helgoland i-point pier" they belong together, and I think I can fix them together in the same way I performed the geo-alignment. Again thank you for your great project.

David-Photosynth-Team (Over 1 year ago)
Ultrasound -- Perceptive question! Can't give dates, but with the next release of our mapping technology (bing.com/maps) the full power of our geoalignment feature will make sense. Until then, we realize that this feature is a lot of work for no public reward. That will change soon...

Ultrasound (Over 1 year ago)
Thank you David. The geo-alignment function is a great new function - but how can I see the geo-alignment of other synths than my own ones? Is it possible to link two neighbored synths with the alignment function?

Fred_Oxford (Over 1 year ago)
Thanks - this is very useful information - Cardinal and I have been shooting the Cochin ceramic animals indoors, and although the point clouds are well devleoped they do not as dense as you achieved in this synth - excellent.

Ultrasound (Over 1 year ago)
Yes, with indoor lighting high aperture values are not possible. I think for a good point cloud higher aperture values are favorable.

Hi Ultrasound, Thank you for your comment on my Santa Barbara Courthouse synth 3 days ago: "Hey you are cracking the performance of my computer... again very good and hard work*". Because of the 20G storage limit, I have to remove older synths to make room for new ones. Here is the newest Courthouse synth, thank you: http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=b2b831fc-4b57-4884-bb2d-719af556e1d9

When you see a halo/donut if you hold the ctrl key down you can temporarily hide the photos, then grab the halo and spin it freely. It's fun! Trees are so synthy it's crazy. I really doing the halo trick above and looking up through the bottom of the tree.

Thanks. Have you tried to compare direct sunlight versus indirect (diffused) but strong sunlight?

Ultrasound (Over 1 year ago)
Thank, you. Yes, it was hand-held. This was possible, because of direct sunlight and an iso value about 200-400: this allows aperture values about 20.

madeeds (Over 1 year ago)
Really fantastic execution. Was this all hand-held?

Drew (Over 1 year ago)
Thanks for the information. By backward shadowing, do you mean you'd like the blue background cloth to not show up in the point cloud so that you only see the foreground objects? A full 3D surface model (instead of just a point cloud) would capture the occlusions correctly. This is a harder problem to crack than just figuring out the camera positions and sparse point cloud, but certainly looks feasible for the synths you've been generating.

Jonathan (Over 1 year ago)
you've taken still-life to new levels with Photosynth. thanks!

Ultrasound (Over 1 year ago)
I found these three objects at the coastline of Helgoland, a small island in the northern sea (see geotag). I don't know exactly what the rusty object originally was - maybe something from an old wooden ship. Now it looks like an archaic object. The stone is a special flint from Helgoland with a beautiful colored surface. For 2009 I wish, that there is a "backward shadowing" function in photosynth -> to accentuate the foreground of the point cloud. In this example the total transparency of the point cloud is not useful. What do you mean?

Drew (Over 1 year ago)
This is really captivating. Where did you get these two objects (and what are they)?

Wow, Ultrasound you are really on to something! This is the kind of cool synth that I have been looking forward to seeing. Very cool!

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Very clever. It's a bit of a shame that the room on this side of the mirror didn't give as much of a point cloud as the one through the looking glass... very strange. Also, the second half of the second row through the end of the fourth row is one crazy ride. 'Twas quite fun. Hehe.

Dear Nathanael! I´ll try it, if I there is time enough and - dayligth! With daylight you can work with high aperture value - and this is important for photosynth. A high aperture alows photosynth to make defined links between the sorundings and the object. Did you looked at my other synth a room with a view? The result was not so perfect but I like the idea to combine a view of a room with a view into the landscape...

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Now we're talking! I've been thinking you should do one of your synthomagics... showing something without water and synthing it with photos after adding water to it. What do you think?
