Lost, I'm surprised that I never commented on this inspiring synth. You certainly challenged me to try larger structures and I'm sure you did the same for others. I wonder if the inner and outer walls could be tightened up by adding a short orbit of the left and right sides of each doorway at minimum and possibly the same treatment of the top of the doorway as well. I know that means more photos which is a problem, but I'd love to see it done. Looking forward to your coming synths when you next have some free time.

Oh execellent! What do I win ? Just kidding. Actually, the strange thing about my stab in the dark, was that for some reason the movie Minority Report kept popping into my mind and sure enough, he was somehow involved with the movie in a small way according to wikipedia. It is amazing to me how much minute information the brain can store.(Great for T.V. game shows like Jeopardy.) And yet I couldn't remember his name. I'm terrible with names anyways. I'll have to see if I can find any videos of him on the internet to remind myself what the heck the interview that I saw back when, was about. But anyway, that was fun. I also took the time to check out Margaret Wertheim's hyperbolic crochet talk. I have not yet listentened to a TED speaker and not been completely captivated to the end of their talk, and Margaret was no exception. I've lost track of how many people I have told about TED and Photosynth and so far no takers. Oh well, their loss

David-Photosynth-Team (Over 1 year ago)
Yes Jim. It is the dreadlocks, and it's Jaron Lanier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaron_Lanier. Good recognition, especially because I didn't catch his face in the photo!

jimcseke (Over 1 year ago)
Favorited this synth partly because I love TED.com. I've been meaning to check out the speakers in this particular conference. Now, as for the pioneer of VR, I'm assuming you mean the gentleman with the dreadlocks. I'm going out on a limb here, be if he is the person you mean, he does look familiar. I remember watching an interview of a person who resembles him. I can't remember his name, but I believe he also is an author.(Science Fiction ....? I think...) I can see his face in my mind and I remember this particular person having very striking blue eyes. And I remember the interview being very interesting. I could be very wrong, but let me know either way. Thanks.

Thanks for pointing me to some of you inspirational synthers. I have checked them out and have added them as favorites. I already had some of Edlee's favorited. I love his synths, and especially love his GO game synths (as obviously does everyone else). Madeeds is also there because of his vividly colorful photograhs and of course his dog elmo. TonyErnst's Curiosity Table... to name a few. Long story short, they are all beautifully done. And I know that I will find many more existing and future favorites. That's where you come in Natanael... (future synths). I can see where you are heading with your synths. Experimenting, improvising, looking for ways to improve and I think that you are one of Photosynth's biggest cheerleaders. Keep doing what you're doing, it is appreciated. P.S. When I wrote "130 photos" in these comments, I meant that I thought you had taken many more pics to get such an amazing synth. Keep on synthin' and TGIS (LOL)

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
People who really inspired/challenged me to take my synthing to another level early on are Lily, Ultrasound, EdLee, and LostInTheTriangle, among many others. In many ways so many of my synths are big sloppy experiments that never quite make it to 'polished' status, though they have the potential, so I definitely still have heaps to learn in terms of actual photography (composition, understanding my camera's settings to get beautiful exposures, etc.), taking photos specifically for easy navigation, and discovering not merely effective methods of generating impressive pointclouds, but efficient and elegant paths. By all rights I should be doing much more with description and highlights as well as they add so much to the experience. I think I could probably take lessons from you in that regard. You always spin a fascinating tale to accompany your imagery and it definitely adds to the experience. Cheers!

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
No worries. =) I happened to have shot this on a relatively cold morning and stayed out only long enough to make a crude orbit at a few different angles and heights. 130 photos sounds like a lot but it only took me nine minutes (mostly just waiting for the camera's automatic focus to catch up with my constantly shifting position) and then I was off like a flash to get back to warmer environs. If you want a great pointcloud, lots of photos is fairly much necessary at this stage of Photosynth's life, but as others have pointed out, as far as viewing the photos or making an experience which is easily navigable, lots of photos doesn't necessarily mean a better synth. I also have managed (on my Deep Wood House's South Lawn synth) to take too much coverage of one portion of the scene for the current 32-Bit synther to handle in Scene Reconstruction, so it is possible to take that approach too far. I'll let you discover where that boundary lies for yourself, though.

jimcseke (Over 1 year ago)
I just noticed only 130 photos! Wow ... I've got to rethink my approach. A real eye-opening day today. Thank you Nathanael.

Thanks for your comments. I've tried to make a new one from Paris, Pyramide du louvre. http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=f3f7a339-92d7-465e-8f35-485daf3ef8b3 More difficult to build since everything is kind of symetric and glass is obviously not the easiest to shoot. What would you like to see from Paris ?

I created an updated and improved version. http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=d14d7048-3c56-4118-84bc-91d0e2760096 Twice the photos, and much better color balancing, etc.

This is a very popular synth judging by the number of views. Nearly 2000!

I liked this style. The poses were all different, so i'd say it's a combo. nice panosynth.
