This must be one of the truly iconic views in the whole USA, and finally capturing it in the same detail as really being there (with a pair of good binoculars) is incredible. Congratulations on an amazing shot!

Being able to see the climbers on the cliffs is insane. The climbers as well must be pretty insane to be doing this sort of thing.

A little late to the party but I also wanted to chime in and say this is great. Also, I really like how one of the small images is a flipped version of the original image :)

@douglas build a big image and split it in half in a way that ICE can re join it using the rotating motion view.

Another amazing mosaic image. As an aside, Singapore looks like a great place to live if bottles of lager do indeed rain from the sky.

No problem. I'm just another photo enthusiast here. Its always interesting to hear how other people take photographs, and it seems like you've definitely found an effective method.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
I realised right after I posted this that I was telling all of the above to a Photosynth team member. Whoops.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Thanks for the kind words. =) Although circling things is nothing new, circling everything is sort of my signature (unless I'm trying to synth something huge) and the pointclouds almost never fail to impress. There are perhaps more quick shortcuts to getting nice pointclouds, but I circle everything so that other people's photos will be able to quickly latch onto whatever I'm synthing in the future when we are able to link our synths together. I like to capture the structure of things from as wide a variety of angles as possible so that others' photos have a nice home to nest in. If I do my job right, the computer is likely to quickly recognise any part of the environment in their photos because I have described it so thoroughly with mine. When I finish with an object, there aren't too many angles left that anyone could shoot it from that would be too dissimilar to mine in order to match.

don.d.kim (Over 1 year ago)
Great job! It very nice that you took the time to carefully circle every object in this scene and it really paid off in the result. Overhead mode and the point cloud are particularly impressive on this one :)

Really nice work. This stitched together beautifully and the point cloud is fantastic. How did you get the photos from above? The ones from the "Pilot" highlight.

That's really impressive that you managed to connect the exterior and interior spaces. If you added some highlights both inside and outside that would be great to make it clear that you can actually get inside the building. Could you geotag this as well? It would be great to see it on a map.

Unfortunately no magic. ICE did the trick. Stitched the stretched edges of the straight down photo’s , with no resulting gap at all. I was standing at the Dom tower at approx. 100 meters height.

don.d.kim (Over 1 year ago)
Wow, this is a very nice view of the city! How did you manage to take pictures from this location? Is the camera floating somehow? I like that you can look straight down into that open air cafe.

Wow, these images are incredibly creepy, but interesting :) It looks like the strip of data at the bottom of each photo confused the matching though, I'd be interested to see if it stitched together a little better if those were cropped out of the images.

You should have an "Edit Synth" button underneath the title. Clicking on it will take you to the edit page. If you click on the "Geotag" tab there, you should get a view of a map. You can simply drag the pushpin onto the map to place your synth at that position.

silverseraph (Over 1 year ago)
May I ask how to do geotag...?

don.d.kim (Over 1 year ago)
Pretty cool. Overhead mode and the point cloud look nice. It would have been nice to get some photos going up the stairs into the building. Where was this taken? If you could geotag the synth and put in on the map that would be great.

That is a pretty interesting, intricate statue and you did a pretty nice job getting photos all around it. It would be awesome if you could geo-tag this so we could see where this is in Vienna. Some highlights for the figures would also be nice. The figure on the bottom has a pretty great facial expression :)

What a great idea for a synth. I wonder how it would have turned out if you were able to drive around and also get some shots from directly underneath. Or here's a crazy idea, actually being inside one of the balloons and taking some photos. Or even crazier than that, 3 people taking pics from the locations I just mentioned, combining them and wait for the results. Anyways, thanks for sharing this experience.
