Nathanael - thanks for the clarification re. the memorial. My apologies for misinterpreting your original comment, and for spelling your name wrong :) Also thanks for the suggestion re. using highlights. I've added these and hopefully they make the synth easier to explore.

Just to be clear... I didn't mean the "In memoriam,,," text, but rather the bits off to the side of it. The memorial was what I thought should be honored.

Good suggestion re. the highlights Nathaniel - I'll work on it. In defence of the graffiti highlighted by Nathaniel, this is a tribute added by the owners of the land to their family, and has always been done in a way that is respectful to the site. Indeed, tributes like this from the land owning family date back a few centuries and are part of the sites history and interest (though my photos only show the most recent tributes). Compare this to the more scrawled carvings - though even the more impulsive graffiti has it's own history too. The fact that the family which owns the land then lets the general public enter and explore the site is to their credit. The site will also be closely controlled by governement bodies such as English Heritage and I'm sure that any carvings such as the highlighted ones will have been subject to detailed government scrutiny.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree re. the resolution - but these were the scanned photo's (or negatives?) as I was given them. I suspect the photo's are from the mid 1980's but I've got no info to back it up. I used them for a synth as I felt it was a good experiment to see how the synth program would deal with a speculative panorama on 35mm film - where the photographer would have had no idea that photosynth would exist. And credit to all parties that the synth worked out pretty well.

Mm... I would have liked to see slightly higher resolution scans, but it did work well, nonetheless. When were these taken?
