Hi. Would you please mind removing the 2nd paragraph of the description. It is copyrighted content from the Bermuda4u website.

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
Thankyou EdLee, must be a combination of things, I shoot the pictures in different resolutions (multishot mode drops the resolution) highest being 3648 x 2056. Photosynth then resizes the pictures. Your Court House project is amazing as well!

EdLee (Over 1 year ago)
Very nice. I was able to synth 1,395 photos @100% in 4 hours 10 minutes with lesser hardware: Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Core 2 Duo T5800, 2GHz, 3G RAM, 32-bit Vista. What were the resolutions of your photos? Mine were VGA 640x480. See my on-going project of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.

arnielarson (Over 1 year ago)
I didn't think it was possible to synth this many photos. This is really cool!

Fred_Oxford (Over 1 year ago)
I have to say this is a very exciting synth - I have spent around 20 minutes "walking" through the church and still have not seen all the corners and details. It is really incredible what Photosynth has done with this.

Ed, I think you are right about the synther not having enough information to completely synth correctly...........

EdLee (Over 1 year ago)
Hi LiTT, (Already in the Bug section): I don't know the math or algorithms behind the synther, so PS people can tell about this theory: it IS a problem of not having enough photos. For example: http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=c8063fc8-145b-4b42-936f-58ca7724b26d If you rotate the building so you are looking down at the staircase and the 2nd floor hallway from the top, you'll see they don't align with the outer walls of the building and the tunnel. I don't have the building's blueprint, but I am guessing in reality, the staircase and the hallway align perfectly with the building walls. The reason they don't in the Point Cloud is that the synther does not have enough information. In the Carter House synth, imagine if the steps are NOT fixed but are actually MOVABLE in real life. Then it's obvious how you can achieve the ghost effect. It's like the ghost points from anything that moves. If you get more photos to cover the steps, I think the ghosts will go away.

Nathanael (Over 1 year ago)
Lost, I'm surprised that I never commented on this inspiring synth. You certainly challenged me to try larger structures and I'm sure you did the same for others. I wonder if the inner and outer walls could be tightened up by adding a short orbit of the left and right sides of each doorway at minimum and possibly the same treatment of the top of the doorway as well. I know that means more photos which is a problem, but I'd love to see it done. Looking forward to your coming synths when you next have some free time.

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
Thanks blaise, I struggled to upload the pictures (out of memory errors) since then the software has been updated so I might retry a large upload again. I also wish I had more time this summer for shooting pictures but have been way to busy. Be glad when things slow down here in the triangle!

That brick wall is pretty sweet. I'm very curious to see what is behind the opening (is it a cliff? -- then you can't synth the other side!) Also, if you can synth all way back back to the steps up. It's too bad that this cannon (like the last one) doesn't show up too nicely in the point cloud -- perhaps if you can temporarily coat it with something that synths well? Like sand, or some kind of chalk powder (something that you can completely wash off without affecting the cannon in anyway...)?

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
dariusmonsef, that's all I wanted to shoot.........a wall!!! then I got a little carried away. Getting completely carried away is shooting the whole fort. (Deja vu all over again!)

The highlights make it really fantastic! Great inside and outside synth.

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
Wow! 1396 and in less than 12 hours, thought I would be happy, but a few things did not work out the way I thought they would. 1: The point cloud on the interior is reduced in scale. This seems to be an ongoing problem for me and probably needs more linking from the outside to the inside. 2: I am not happy to say this but.............It's just too big (photosynth team, you are correct)makes for difficult navigation! (Thanks again for the Highlights feature, good fix this problem!) 3: I need to get more exterior coverage from the East, North and South. (Lighting, times of the day and overcast will help a little) 4: A few more interior shots are missing (some important highlights) these might help the interior point cloud connect better with the outside. 5: The roof (copper) was redone a few years ago (they will not let me put mud all over it so I can forget about a good point cloud) I almost kept this synth Unlisted but changed my mind after I did the highlights

I now have over 3000 pictures (inside and out) way to many to synth together :( I really wold like to see this complete. I have tried editing out a lot of extras but still have trouble over 1100 photos (keep running out of memory) or so the error says but I seem to have plenty left. Watched the resource monitor today and photosynth crashed (out of memory) while I still had over 2 gigs left (I have 8 total)

lostinthetriangle (Over 1 year ago)
Okay, my resolution is much higher, photosynth re-sizes on the upload i think, but most of my photos are much higher than 640 x 480

EdLee (Over 1 year ago)
The limit seems to be around 1,500 photos at 640x480 resolution. :)

Thanks EdLee, yes I agree about the lighting! I will be going out a third time to photograph the interior. I have to arrange a time for the park rangers to open up the tower. As part of Bermuda's 400th anniversary celebration, the commemoration of a statue of a slave who gave her life for racial equality was unveiled at the Cabinet Office. Sally Bassett was a slave who rose up against the injustice of slave owners and in contempt for the ill treatment of her granddaughter Beck, who was owned by mariner Thomas Foster, Sally attempted to poison Mr. Forster, his wife and their slave Nancey. Nancey found the poison that was meant to kill them and reported Sally to the Fosters. Her punishment for doing such was to be burned at the stake for the entire Island to watch

Thanks dariusmonsef! Lots of places to take pictures of in Bermuda. Just need the time. I seem to want to get everything in one go. Trouble is I find the big projects (lots of pics) tends to also lead to a lot of problems. Sometimes the Cloud point gets confused and you end up with multiple objects. Or it takes four or five times to upload (out of memory) This one took over nine hours to finish. The cannons got a bit of a cloud point, actually that surprised me a little! (I think the bright sun and shadows helped)

dariusmonsef (Over 1 year ago)
If you keep this up I won't need to come down to Bermuda to see all its wonderful places :) Actually, I'll just know exactly where to go!
