To get the same "flow" you talk about here: http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=6FA677D0-45A1-439C-A2A9-93144EE1E6A0 you're going to need to shoot a larger panorama, and make sure that every photo overlaps by about 65% with the previous one. It takes 30-80 photos to make a good panorama without zooming in. Once you have that, then you can start adding some details.

Sphynctre (Over 1 year ago)
Yes David, my ship was stationary and I watched as the Pride approached, then did a 180-degree turn, and then backed up beside the dock. I tried to be careful about including too much of the background for fear that it would smear the point cloud since the photos would then have moving and stationary objects

David-Photosynth-Team (Over 1 year ago)
Very cool Tan. This was a case of letting the ship come past you, rather than you moving along it's side, right?

Dear Madeeds, Thank you very much for these wonderful ideas, this is just the kind of feedback I am hoping for. I will try out your suggestions post the results. I think this technology holds great promise for archaeological documentation. Regards, Nathan

madeeds (Over 1 year ago)
Very cool idea. Consider using a design that's more intricate than four squares of a checker board. With this design, you only get a few features at the corners. If it were more complicated, you could get more features. If you just did nine red spots on a yellow background, it might work better. You might also consider making each of the four targets use a different accent color so that in your post-processing you can identify them algorithmically.

I wish it would show more of the surrounding pictures so you could see the whole ceiling at once, and the navigation around the pit is a little awkward. Also, some of the pictures ended up as orphans which I didn't expect considering the main feature of them seems pretty obvious and should make for good alignment.

Nice job with the decorations. A couple suggestions: 1) Take another full circle of about 30 more photos from a slightly different location. (Just move the tripod about 3 feet) This way when you go to top-down you'll see the real shape of the room. 2) Change the starting image to something a little more interesting 3) Add some highlights.
