Super cool in the top right hand corner!

I like the attempt, too bad thing's didn't connect better...I hope you keep trying!

You've created a HALO! Impressive.

Marvin (Over 1 year ago)
Did someone take my name in vain? :-) Seriously though, this looks really cool. Nice work spending time to get enough shots to get it all to synth together.

blaise (Over 1 year ago)
But I have to admit this one is even cooler than Marvin's! (Not his real name ;) You managed to connect two very disparate parts of the Earth, from ground views up to space and back down. Nice!

Bert (Over 1 year ago)
Cool, we had something very similar with Virtual Earth imagery, look at user Marvin's synths: http://photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx?user=Marvin

Yes! Just saw this one. Great job connecting the two seperate objects. You even managed to get everything into a single coordinate system (the pointclouds for the building and the object are not split). Wonderbar!

The main problem with this is JPEG compression, it prevents good color separation because of its algorithms. (you might be interested in supporting lossless compression - and alpha)

Marvin (Over 1 year ago)
I see. That's a really cool idea! I tried it, but didn't really see anything. The pictures all seem to be synthing correctly, so I assume this was on purpose. Keep up the good work. I'll be keeping track of your efforts.

I'm trying to use a set of color channels to give 3d orientation, and the leftover channels for whatever I want to display. I adjust the monitor colors to see the image. For this one, you need to turn off your Red and Green channels, and leave Blue only. It's an experiment...

Marvin (Over 1 year ago)
You've got an interesting set of photosynths. What exactly are you trying to do?

2 things: - check "new PS version comparison test" http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=5e43910e-22fb-41ef-89e1-5921f4a514de - the intended outermost image was the virtual panel; it's the last image in the first connected dataset. try starting it from there, it's kinda cool. but it's a good idea for an algorithm. cheers.

Jonathan (Over 1 year ago)
This is great! And, I'm glad that our algorithm for selecting the 'outmost' image as the starting point works so well in your model here.

K (Over 1 year ago)
i just got it! if you find the building facades in 2D mode you can press the down arrow to move all the way out - it's all connected. the facades also connect to the real imagery. this is pretty cool but i still don't quite understand your intent.

David-Photosynth-Team (Over 1 year ago)
You've been working hard on this set! What's it all about?

I got it to work. Check Variation 7... Thanks for the tips!

Pretty to cool see you experimenting to create something new and artistic.

Marvin (Over 1 year ago)
Hi vs007. Still following your experiments... The fact that there isn't even a weak connection between the object and the building suggests that there's not enough features matching. One of my colleagues suggests that there might be a scale issue. In general, Photosynth finds it hard to match features when they are more than twice as large in one of the images. Adding a few more images with the object a little smaller might help.

I did somthing similar here: http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=a65da837-270c-4fd5-b487-08875dddf92b&i=0:1:0&z=720.34783112592&g=1&p=-5.86405e-012:-2.03476e-010&m=false&c=447.935:113.365:1410.69&d=-0.0482755:2.53806:1.81303 ,superimposing some real aerial shots over Virtual Earth pictures. In some ways mine is a bit easier, since the two models *should* be overlapping. I "fixed up" three such images for that synth, and it still doesn't work quite as well as I'd like. Keep up the good work!

Marvin (Over 1 year ago)
Interesting experiment. The issue you need to overcome is that in general, Photosynth needs 3 common points for 3 images. Since you only have one image with overlap, the best thing that photosynth can do is allow you to transition from this image to either one group or the other.

What's cool is that the tree sort of floats above the background when viewing the point cloud.
