very cool! you got a nice reconstruction of the statue for 37 photos. personally i'd like to see a few more of the landscape to put it in perspective. tell us in the description about your trip and why you chose this particular statue (moai?).

This was just an experiment - I had a series of photos I took casually of this statue over the past several years as I walked past it and I wanted to see if those photos could be used to generate a model of the statue. I have many more photos of other statues and during our next field season will do more systematic shots. Ultimately, I'd like to be able to get relative measurements out of the photos through the point cloud. This would make a great way to document statues as well as create data for analysis.
My other synths include blimp photos of the quarry. I'll do one for Ahu Nau Nau next.

what if you just included something like a quarter in some of the shots? that would give you something to base the remaining scale from since it's a known size.

This is a fantastic way to document precious history that could be damaged by storms, earthquakes, or vandalism. I've made models from pictures in the past manually. A quarter would work for a size reference. I also like post it notes for their sharp edge and how many you can carry.
