Grand Canyon GigaView #21 Shinumo Creek

A close up view of a Grand Canyon riparian area, this GigaPan was taken in a spot that rarely sees the burning sun. Just above a terrific swimming hole, this bend in the creek was the only shady spot I could reach without wading equipment across (again). Shinumo Creek supports a wide ecosystem through arid terrain, all the way to a babbling confluence with the Colorado. Recently, the Park Service has reintroduced the endangered Humpback Chub to the creek from a population at the Little Colorado. I saw several large fish while swimming and had smaller ones nibbling at my toes. Grand Canyon GigaView is a new school virtual tour of the Grand Canyon created with a collection of GigaPan images taken on a private rafting trip in April 2010 and geolocated in Google Earth.
