At the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, OR, where The Old 97's & Sarah Jaffe played on Wednesday, June 1st, 2011, the Texas musicians were kind enough to sit for a gigapixel panorama.

Composited from 126 individual photos, spanning 30 minutes before the doors opened, this image is a collison of the space and time, where Sarah Jaffe and her band are able to watch their own sound check along with their friends, Rhett Miller, Murry Hammond, Ken Bethea, Philip Peeples.

Special thanks to Scott Danbom (one of my college roommates and still the most talented guy I've ever known) for making this photographic experiment possible.

Do yourself a favor...go to their websites to find out when these bands are coming to your town next. Pick up a few downloads. You will thank yourself.

The 2D, flat version of this image can be explored at http://gigapan.org/gigapans/78807/

A print of this image may soon become available. Anyone interested may contact me @GigaView360 on twitter.

Great pano!

Thanks, David. Even more fun to shoot than most. Got to hang out with a great friend and his talented friends. Stayed up too late and had too much fun. Sarah Jaffe blew my mind on stage and The Old 97s were even better than the last time I saw them ten years ago. Thanks to all for their help in making this.

What the hell with the dismembered head above and to the right of the stage... I'm gonna have nightmares.

Sorry first photosynth on the page..

This is a first. I've discovered a new music artist via Photosynth. Am listening to Sarah Jaffe "Swelling" off of "Suburban Nature" right now - I love it.

Amazing, huh? Glad you found her via Photosynth, mattu. I hope it's not the last.

Any Portland/Seattle bands or bands coming through Portland that would also like to sit for a gigapixel portrait, please connect with me @GigaView360 on twitter.

Prints may also become available, up to 30x60".

Very cool, I like that the band is in the synth more than once. I've been meaning to try that but never pulled it off.

I just saw both bands last night in Austin at La Zona Rosa. I've never been to a show where all three acts were so amazing.
Excellent job on the trick photography! Totally seemless.

@K - the easiest way is to simply shoot two full panos from the same spot.

@SBCallender Thanks, but I can't take credit for the seamlessness. that goes to mattu (above) and his team at Microsoft Research who make ICE, their free stitching software. It is incredibly smart. Glad to hear it was such a great show in Austin. Make sure to send out a tweet or two to that effect and mention @sayjaffe, @KirklandRecords, @RhettMiller, & @old9s.

Three days after shooting this image, I was on U2's 360 Tour stage shooting a 20 GigaPixel Fan Cam image for the U2 website. Here's that one with Facebook integration - http://www.u2.com/gigapixelfancam/110604/
I'll be in LA next weekend shooting two more shows. Can not wait...
