Description

Woofa Bank 01 is positioned in the Burley Moor area of Rombalds Moor, and is surrounded by various prehistoric features including further examples of rock art, a Cairnfield and stretches of boulder walling. All this activity, probably hints at a special landscape to prehistoric peoples, and the presence of various cairns may point in the direction of a cemetery. The carving itself is low to the ground and has numerous cups, some with rings and grooves. One of the most striking elements about this carving is the presence of tool marks, which indicate the motifs probably went to ground / were covered relatively quickly after carving and have stayed hidden for millennia
