I think if you after a denser point cloud you need more images, I would be tempted to put the camera on a pole as well to get some semi aerial views into the mix, that might get the texture padded out on the banks a little. Its amazing what a difference 5m of tubing makes, a good number of cameras will take continuous shots if you just tape down the shutter. Just make sure the first shot meters the scene well.
