Globe 2.0

Awesome! I love old maps and globes, and you've synthed this one wonderfully. Out of curiosity, how did you get such a good empty black backround?

The globe is sitting on a lazy susan to that I could easily spin it around. This is actually on a small table covered in a plain black t-shirt. Behind the globe I put 2 chairs with their backs facing the globe and hung a big black (actually really dark blue) towel between them. I have 3 bright desk lamps shining from different angles onto the globe. Since the globe was illumiated so brightly I could use a fast exposure which eliminated anything that is dim, like the black background. In the original high-res pictures you can still kind of see these background objects, but before uploading I used Picasa to make all the pictures smaller and slighty decrease the image quality (for smaller files for uploading).

For my first try I didn't have any of the black background and the rest of the room showed up, so I came up with this to eliminate that.
