Description

Habitations is an incredible hand printed artist book of original paintings published by Crab Quill press. It represents a collaboration of the artist Ian Boyden and poet Sam Hamill. The pigments used in the paintings are really unique.. They contain fossilized whale ear bone, fossilized shark tooth, fossilized cave bear tooth, cuttlefish ink, freshwater pearl, opal, loess, basalt, granite, lava, and petrified wood. These photos were taken at Davidson Contemporary Gallery in Seattle earlier this summer.

My wife and I saw this exhibition while it was up in the Davidson Gallery. It's really remarkable, and very different from anything else on the contemporary art scene in Seattle. I'm very glad we were able to help the artists and Sam Davidson make this record.

I just became aware of Sam Hamill's poetry when I was at Fort Worden (Port Townsend), where Sam has collaborated on an outdoor sculpture installation called Memory's Vault I'm planning to synth.

My wife also saw the installation and bought Hamill's anthology (Almost Paradise...) at a Port Townsend bookstore, which I'm hoping to browse next week.

I realized all this time that I hadn't geotagged this. Oops!
