Description

Looking south from 3800' on the trail to Giant Mountain. Nearby to the left is Rocky Peak Ridge (4389') and in the distance are Dix Mountain (4840') and Nippletop (4609'). The High Peaks are to the right.

In the foreground is an exposure of the metanorthosite (looks like granite with huge, lovely crystals) which underlies most of the high Adirondack peaks.

The sub-alpine forest on either side includes red spruce, balsam fir, and birch.

Stitched in ICE from 42 handheld photos (4 rows) from a Nikon D40 at 82mm (eq).
