Description

The Sierra Nevada range divides California's central valley and the Great Basin for about 400 miles, also called The Range of Light. The highest point of the crest is Mount Whitney at 14,505 feet (4,421 m). The John Muir Trail begins here at Whitney Portal and extends to Happy Isles in Yosemite to the north for 211 miles (340 km). Photographed from the rock formations of the Alabama Hills, a long time filming area since the 1920s. Shot with Nikon D-700, 24 mm f-2.8 prime lens on a panoramic head, stitched from 12 frames. Software used was Lightroom 4, Photosynth and PTGui.
