Description
This synth is half of Pendragon Castle in the Vale of Mallerstang in Cumbria, England….. The other half of the synth pics sadly had to be abandoned due to rain.
Unsurprisingly for a relatively early castle, it comes complete with its own King Arthur legend….or in this case, Arthur’s father, Uther Pendragon. Not only did Uther build it, he also died here along with a hundred of his men, after invading Saxons poisoned the well.
Now for reality! There’s no real evidence of anything prior to a Norman keep, which was first constructed by Hugh de Morville in the late 12th century. Over the next few hundred years the castle fell in and out of repair and was also set alight in 1341 by invading Scots. It was last restored in the 17th century by Lady Anne Clifford, but once again fell into disrepair after her death.
A lovely looking thing, in a wonderful setting.
