The permanent collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales holds some of the best Australian impressionist and post-impressionist art around. This room holds some of the most famous works by Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Elioth Gruner, Hugh Ramsey, and many others. It was taken with a hand-held point and shoot in about 15 minutes. Note that this camera -- a Canon G9 has lots of radial distortion at its widest focal length, which is how most of these photos were shot. This version of Photosynth handles radial distortion pretty well.

This should get the galleries excited! It's amazing how decent even these snapshots of the artwork are. Wouldn't it be gorgeous to combine this with proper high-resolution scans.

This highlights on this synth bring a whole new dimension to this experience, having some extra context about the space makes a huge difference.

Thanks Douglas. This was one of the first synths we applied highlights to in testing, and as soon as we saw it, we were convinced that we'd hit a useful feature. Hope we'll see highlights on your synths soon!

The McCubbin painting is entitled 'On the Wallaby Track' and was painted in 1896.

Monir -- It's hard to explain howe Photosynth works even for people who have 100% English skills! I bet you read french, so here's a French Wikipedia article on "photogrammetry" which forms the core of the Photosynth algorithms.
