Five 20x20m study plots along the elevational contour above the treeline of white spruce were established in 1998. The vegetation is alpine tundra dominated by low shrubs. In 2004 a wildfire burned through the area consuming all plants and much organic soil in parts of four of the plots. Quaking aspen seedlings are abundant in the plots where organic soil was burned; aspen was not present in or near these plots before 2004. Plot 4 is outlined with a white tape. Pink flagging is visible at the corners of the other four plots. This panorama is stitched from 36 photos taken from a Canon A590 lofted by a kite.
