Sorry to cut........ n paste.........

Very nice! Are all 1,006 photos at high-resolutions? You probably have a "fast" connection to upload all the .dziz files?

EdLee, my camera shoots up to 10 megapixel's, I usually shoot in two modes medium burst at 5 megapixel's and continuous at 8 megapixel's.
I tried dropping the resolution down last week but found it had very little effect on the amount of pictures I can synth before a out of memory error. Thus I let them go unchanged and try not to synth more than 1100 pictures.

Oh and yeah I can get about four megs down and one meg up give or take the time of day.
It's hard because having to pick and choose the pictures just to get the synther happy means I loose detail, especially on the outside!

I am still happy with the results, (two weeks and a lot of computer time) but do not consider this one finished util I can get another 1000 pictures added to it :)

Thank you TonyErnst, I have almost got the effect I have been looking for. Almost like an X-Ray of the tower.........now if I could only get my hands on a 64bit client...................

lostinthetriangle (313 days ago) delete

There are three floors with the main (middle) being living quarters the top floor is the gun deck and the bottom floor is the magazine. Their is part of the bottom floor that I could not photograph as it is unlit and very dark.
There is a dome ceiling over the middle floor (I am very happy how this turned out!) As a matter of fact I am extreamly pleased how this program figured out how to put this synth together.

My thanks to the photosynth team!

siblog (313 days ago) delete

That's better! I saw an earlier version and was hoping you would add more pic to get some halo's going. Great Synth.

Awesome. Love the interior stairs.

Kyle_Barnard (44 weeks ago) delete

Amazing. Almost a 3D model. It's like visiting the tower in person

lostinthetriangle (44 weeks ago) delete

Thanks for the comments, this was a very frustrating thing to do (I still want to add more pictures to fill in the details!) The inside is still a little off in scale compared to the outside, though not by much.

tinybabe123 (304 days ago) delete

dariusmonsef (42 weeks ago) delete

Awesome to explore it with the highlights now.

SynthDragon (42 weeks ago) delete

It's a lot easier to navigate through the tower now. Great work using the new "highlight" feature.

Jonathan (293 days ago) delete

Agreed. The highlights make this walkable!

dd28 (293 days ago) delete

yeah the highlights help a ton amazing
first time i tried to view it my computer froze but i tried again and it was worth it :)

sandra2012 (289 days ago) delete

Hey bye, I just spent over 1/2 hr here and that's just on this tower. You know, I've hardly ever been over Ferry Reach and the time or two I went I don't remember this tower. I certainly didn't think there was anything inside or even that you could get in!!!!
You said you had been there 25 years ago were you doing a story for the Gazette. I've only come to appreciate Bermuda as a historical treasure since I've been here. When you live in Bda you don't realise the history there until you leave and go live somewhere else!!!
For those reading this, Lost is my brother and he is doing amazing work with Synthy. He used to do vids in Bermuda for You Tube but finds this much more rewarding!!! Actually I've been in the States for 30 years so I am revisiting Bermuda thru his eyes (and his camera!!!)

Must say this is an amazing work!!!
After pressed 'p', feel like rotate a 3D model in 3DMax

Rick (286 days ago) delete

The highlights make this a great way to tour your extensive collection.

lostinthetriangle (284 days ago) delete

Thanks for the comments, and yes I agree about the Highlight feature, makes it much easier to navigate.
Hey Linda thanks for having a look around, I am surprised you never got a chance to go in to the tower!

Othman (261 days ago) delete

Very nice

Othman (261 days ago) delete

Thank you for this Program

blaise (160 days ago) delete

This is astonishing. Getting the interior pointcloud to fit neatly into the exterior one is a nice accomplishment. We need to try some experiments in the lab on this one!

lostinthetriangle (22 weeks ago) delete

Thanks blaise, I struggled to upload the pictures (out of memory errors) since then the software has been updated so I might retry a large upload again. I also wish I had more time this summer for shooting pictures but have been way to busy. Be glad when things slow down here in the triangle!

Nathanael (139 days ago) delete

Lost, I'm surprised that I never commented on this inspiring synth. You certainly challenged me to try larger structures and I'm sure you did the same for others.

I wonder if the inner and outer walls could be tightened up by adding a short orbit of the left and right sides of each doorway at minimum and possibly the same treatment of the top of the doorway as well. I know that means more photos which is a problem, but I'd love to see it done.

Looking forward to your coming synths when you next have some free time.

lostinthetriangle (86 days ago) delete

Thanks Nathanael! looking for some free time as well!

This is still a work in progress (out of memory error) then I can add some more detail. Until then, enjoy! "F" full screen "P" point cloud...give it time to load!

use the "View Synth in Direct3D Viewer" for the best full screen point cloud experience!

There is a Martello located at Ferry Reach in St George's Parish. It was completed in the 1820s.

Martello towers (or simply Martellos) are small defensive forts built in several countries of the British Empire during the 19th century, from the time of the Napoleonic Wars onwards.

They stand up to 40 feet (12m) high (with two floors) and typically had a garrison of one officer and 15-25 men. Their round structure and thick walls of solid masonry made them resistant to cannon fire, while their height made them an ideal platform for a single heavy artillery piece, mounted on the flat roof and able to traverse a 360° arc. A few Martello towers were surrounded by a moat for extra defence. They were used throughout the 19th century, but became obsolete with the introduction of powerful rifled artillery. Many have survived to the present day, often preserved as historic monuments.
