Description
Asmat is probably the most well-known tribe in Papua (formerly called Irian Jaya). Live in the southwestern coast of Irian Jaya, which is the western half of Papua New Guinea (formerly Dutch New Guinea) and has been part of Indonesia since 1962. The Asmat people are protected to the north by mountains and to the south by the Arafura Sea; their land has long remained free of outsiders.
