Get all your questions answered about our latest Photosynth Technical Preview.
Not too long before I'd been able to try the Technical Preview, I'd begun reviewing MSR's papers and projects regarding 3D reconstruction from the past several years again and found a paper + video from mid-2012 demonstrating how by reconstructing reflections separately from the rest of the scene, more realistic playback was possible. http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ReflectionsIBR/
My fellow synthers might also find this talk by Rick Szeliski framing that problem in the context of computer vision interesting: http://youtube.com/watch?v=j90_0Ndk7XM&hd=1
This also resembles a much earlier video I'd seen years ago by Pravin Bhat http://vimeo.com/1513129 which was able to transfer texture from high res still photos to a low res video, but preserve the reflections' movement in the video.
What plans are there to introduce this to your viewers' rendering capabilities?
We have no plan to integrate this feature yet.
