A year or so ago I was collecting links to views of different points on the map in different mapping services.
Bing's and Google's were simple to get a link to an exact location via a menu option, but when I came to Nokia's Here Maps I noticed that although there was no menu to give me a link that when I scrolled or zoomed, the URL in the address bar would update automatically each time I came to rest when scrolling.
I'm assuming that updating it in realtime would cause unnecessary churn, but certainly updating the URL every time that the viewport comes to rest is useful and an elegant way to allow users to give a link to others of what they were looking at when they copied the link.
Since Share Links in PS2 are still so simple at this point (image-specific, rather than region-specific within an image) they're still short enough to not cause too much clutter by updating the URL in the address bar.
Sorry, the forum snipped the link in half.
This should work, if you don't want to copy and paste the entire link above. http://bit.ly/orcaphere
I just wanted to say that I noticed Tuesday that you're using live URL updating when panning and zooming on your new map page. http://photosynth.net/preview/map/
It's good to see this technique applied somewhere on the site.
Hey that is great!
Thanks, glad you like it.
