I did a spin and took photos from left to right but the default playback rotated playback from right to left. Add a setting that lets us set what 'direction' we synch through the photos: from older to newer or newer to older photos.
We had just such a setting for a while before we shipped but pulled it out because it appeared to create some confusion, although it just may have been the wording we used. Can you please point me to a synth where the initial direction of motion really matters a lot?
I'd made a request for synth playlists until we get synth linking and I also asked for a movement direction switch there.
Within that context when you're trying to get one synth to move into the next as seamlessly as possible, direction does matter.
I will say that with spins that do not connect a full 360°, it is possible to simply set the starting image of the synth on the side you wich to begin on and when the synth autoplays, it will by necessity move in the chronological direction because it has nowhere else to go, rather than letting it start in the center of the arc, by default, and potentially move in a reverse chronological direction.
For the Photosynth team, I would turn your question around at you. "Can you please point me to a synth where the playing the photos in an order inverse to the capture order really matters a lot?"
One interesting related comment from the Photosynth team came up in another thread today.
"Photosynth tries to use the "Date taken" field to select order when it can." Source: http://bit.ly/psfooop
So, if that's the case, what is happening in these spins?
Joscelin Trouwborst also expresses desire for control over default playback direction here:
"Spin auto turn direction?" http://photosynth.net/discussion.aspx?cat=00581351-82d8-438d-a37b-7eadb3fb4991&dis=6406270c-57a9-4e75-b4c0-f68c148b97f2
I am trying to create a spin that goes from left to write to show the text around the Wright Brother's National Memorial. If the spin goes from right to left, the text doesn't make sense and it is very confusing to explain to novice viewers to manually switch the direction of the playback.
My example: http://photosynth.net/preview/view/6c35fc9a-97e0-4de5-bf6a-b2122467c63c
oops! left to right**
Thanks for this example @mtudeen. It makes a good case for supporting control over the autoplay initial direction -- at least in the case of loops.
palbert1976 also makes this request here: https://photosynth.net/discussion.aspx?cat=01b6f15f-42eb-49cb-a221-ed56615e1c47&dis=c4943630-83c8-4b17-9fc4-cf52366caa76
Ideally this setting would be able to be applied to both Tech Preview synths as well as stitched panoramas.
Original photosynths already allow this by the editor allowing us to specify to follow the alphanumeric order of the input photos' file paths + names.
