Twice today, I've come across someone's synths (once via a forum conversation and the other, browsing the Explore page here on the site) and gone to their profile to see what else they'd made.
After returning to their profile page later (probably within two hours in both cases) I was given a version of their profile page that said they'd not yet created any public synths.
In both cases, now, after waiting some time, the profile showed the users' synths again.
It seems improbable that two random users whose profiles I both viewed today suddenly made all of their synths unlisted for under an hour and then made them listed again, so I conclude that there is some issue with Photosynth's servers.
Yep. I just verified that we do indeed have a bug here. Tell me if the following is consistent with what you've seen: when signed in with an account that is part of the preview, the URLs you mentioned show some new listed synths as expected. But if you are not signed in with such an account, they become invisible, right?
(Note that the "preview site" version of the page behaves correctly: e.g. http://photosynth.net/preview/users/jpete )
That makes sense. I did switch between email accounts several times yesterday.
As of the time I checked this today all three of the email addresses appear to be in the preview, so I had a bit of trouble verifying this but did create a new username for another existing address and did not apply for the preview on that one and saw exactly what you described.
And yes, while signed out of all accounts, the same behavior applies.
Somehow it didn't occur to me that this is the same thing we'd already talked about.
Sorry about that.
