Get all your questions answered about our latest Photosynth Technical Preview.
I know that with the Tech Preview, you're attempting to give the smoothest possible playback.
The geometry is often so bad that early on in the Tech Preview I took to just using the arrow keys to move between photos one at a time.
This gives the same sense of spatial awareness of what direction that one is moving, but reduces the time that '3D artifacts' are shown on screen and leaves most of the time with uncorrupted photography.
I'm sure that your ideal is to just have people learn to shoot more densely, such that their geometry will have fewer artifacts and always present the smoothest motion through a scene as possible, but I would like to request an alternate playback mode that de-emphasizes transition time and gives somewhere between half and two thirds of a photo's transition time to just being navigated to that photo (so more of a slideshow with a start/stop feeling).
I know that it won't work for every synth, but in some cases it would be an improvement.
I have noticed these artifacts too. Especially with my older, more random shoots.
An alternate playback mode might smoothen playback of a synth with traditional, legacy photography, i.e. shot with traditional, legacy (d)slr or point-and-shoot cameras.
I feel we first need to go from augmented photography, i.e. photos taken with a Camera app on computers with cameras (smartphones, tablets). I expect the app to guide, assure that photos are taken for proper synthing.
