Photosynth looks great in the demos but when I get into it, it seems very limited.
It seems like it has lost some of the things that made the old Photosynth exceptional.
1. You can't have detailed images of a part of the scene that you zoom in to.
2. You can't put together pictures taken by different people at different times.
3. You can't have some approximating a spherical panorama where you can look up and down.
The parallax panorama looked very cool, but since you can't look up or down I'd rather use a conventional spherical panorama such as is created with PtGui or other programs.
I stopped using the old Photosynth because it was to hard to edit a synth: add photos, take out photos.
You can do even less editing with the new one. You can't take out photos or trim the length of a synth.
It would be nice if you could link to synths, i.e. have one take off immediately following the other.
Anyone have ideas about any of this?
Is Microsoft going to add any of this?
All these criticisms are fair, and that's part of the reason why we put the "preview" label on this release. We agree that we need to address 1, and 2. We see 3 as a nice-to-have since we plan to continue to support and encourage stitched panos, but clearly these need to be integrated, which they aren't now.
