Hi there, all,
When I enter Photosynth 2's global camera view (type the [C] key when viewing a synth) I can immediately see the camera frusta from my synth as well as the polygons that the current photo is being projected onto.
If you type 42 into the viewer, you can activate the debug panel and check the 'Point Cloud' check box, however unlike the other check boxes which seem to have an immediate effect on the viewer, the point cloud option doesn't usually make the point cloud spring into view.
For some time I didn't think that I would ever see a point cloud on a new synth, but after a while, I finally saw one after entering and exiting global camera view multiple times (using [C] several times).
It seems to me (though I may be mistaken) that the preview site/viewer remembers whether I've checked the point cloud option between synths - that is, it seems stored with a cookie, whereas other options all reset to default between synths.
Even so, there are some synths which I simply cannot seem to get any point cloud to load on.
What is going on?
Does the entire point cloud need to finish downloading before it is displayed at all?
Can anyone explain to me how to reliably get the point cloud to display on any new synth?
The 42 menu is a hidden feature in progress (new version will be available).
You are right: you need to refresh the page to see the point cloud (settings are store in Html5 localStorage).
Sadly all PS2 synths converted from PS1 don't have point cloud. But the new ones produced through the create/upload page should all have point cloud.
Thanks for the answer, Henri.
Glad to see what you've been working on since you went to work at Microsoft.
Henri, just to be clear, when you say, "Sadly all PS2 synths converted from PS1 don't have point cloud. But the new ones produced through the create/upload page should all have point cloud.", will this be true going forward?
In other words, "Is the plan to process all Photosynth 1 synths to Photosynth 2 synths in the future and will none of them have their point cloud when they are converted or is this a temporary limitation?"
When a Photosynth 1 synth is converted to a Photosynth 2 synth, does it overwrite the original (keeping the same globally unique ID) or are both available?
This is a current limitation (I don't know when/if it will be fixed).
And the original PS1 synths are preserved after conversion:
Thanks! I appreciate the straightforward answer and example.
