You already have the 3D points close to a model, can we have a new view that shows a rough 3D mesh model with texture on it? I think that would be cool.
Aye. I'd love to see this come to synths too.
For you other guys and girls who would like this, you may be interested to know that early prototypes of Photo Tourism and Photosynth actually did project the photos onto the reconstructed geometry, instead of only the flat geometric planes which have been used in the public versions.
Here are a couple of video examples:
http://phototour.cs.washington.edu/PhotoTourismFull.wmv (specifically from 05:00 onward)
http://en.sevenload.com/videos/xNyNIRT-Blaise-Aguera-y-Arcas-Photosynth (specifically from 15:01 - 18:25)
The Spin Movies ( http://bit.ly/spinmovies ) that Microsoft Research has been prototyping looks like they use something similar, although in that case it is more like computing a depth map for each input image.
If you'd like to try this before the Photosynth team introduces it, try Henri Astre's http://bit.ly/photosynth-toolkit Video tutorials: http://bit.ly/ptvtutorials
We have some video tutorials about how to create quick, clean meshes using projected textures from photogrammetry generated cameras.
